JOHANNESBURG: South Africa suffered a major injury setback as right-arm pacer Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the third ODI against Pakistan, scheduled to be played at The Wanderers Stadium here on Sunday.
The right-arm pacer, who bagged two wickets for 37 runs in seven overs in the series opener in Paarl on Tuesday, was not a part of the hosts’ lineup for the subsequent fixture.
The development came after the 31-year-old complained of discomfort in his right knee during the warm-up.
As a result, Baartman has been replaced by 30-year-old all-rounder Corbin Bosch in South Africa’s squad for the remaining fixture.
For the unversed, Ottneil Baartman’s injury is the second setback for the hosts in the ongoing three-match series as left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has already been sidelined due to a groin strain.
According to a report, Maharaj sustained the injury during the home team’s warm-ups for the ODI series opener against Pakistan.
Report further suggested that the left-arm spinner was a part of South Africa’s playing XI for the opening fixture but his untimely injury forced the hosts to replace him with Andile Phehlukwayo.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series. The visitors edged past the Proteas by three wickets in the opener before backing it up with an 81-run triumph in the second ODI.
